The rules to this ancient Roman game are unknown. The rules used in the Peg Pastimes™ version were devised by Wladyslaw Kowalski, ca. 2006. Each player has a set of 5 pegs of a given color, and one of a similar color which is called the "dux." When a player immobilizes the enemy's dux, they win the game, even if some of the surrounding pegs the dux's own men. Pegs are moved any unblocked distance orthogonally, like a chess rook, and a peg is captured by flanking it on both sides. But the dux cannot be captured; rather it is immobilized if blocked on all four sides. Made in USA for 2 players age 6+.
